Rainy Workday
Feels like we’ve been workin’ in this drizzlin’ rain all mornin’.
Everything’s muddy as a hog pen, but at least the rain washes the sweat off my hide.
Funny thing — the renters still seem to fancy me, rain-soaked or not.
Been pullin’ a heavy wagon since sunrise, but I didn’t mind none — they hitched me up beside a handsome chestnut gelding.
We hauled that load together, side by side, watchin’ each other struggle every time the harness bit down tighter.
By noon, the boss unhitched us and left us standin’ in the square — just the two of us, drippin’ in the rain.
