They burned the ShackleFord brand into my hide right there at the auction — iron hot as the devil’s breath! Every cow got the same ‘SF’ mark, like we’re all just one big herd of nobodies. Guess that’s how they do things in this dusty town.

They say the brand means we belong here… but what happens when they sell one of us off to another city?
